These are hard times: now more than ever, hifi lovers need to carefully manage their budget and it seems it's no more time to spend money for other than the sheer sound quality. Thanks God, technology comes to help and what was once only obtainable with complex and costly circuitry and components it's now at hand with far less financiary effort.
The new hiFace DAC is a high-end async USB DAC compliant with USB 2.0 Audio Class and capable of up to 384/32. Check your local distributor for MSRP: you will be surprised, as its performance were previously only available on machines costing ten times more.
Personally, when I design a product together with my team, I have a target performance in mind, but I must admit that this time the final result of our team effort is far beyond we expected.
In our reference system, based on Jeff Rowland electronics and Audio Manufacture speakers, the sound was amazing, competing in overall soundstage, dynamic and frequency response smoothness with those of the Young.
Also in my home system (a vintage setup with a touch of modernity), I couldn't believe to what I was listening to. Of course, the sound of the hiFace DAC had some limits, but not those you would expect from such a tiny, affordable thing.
The hiFace DAC is the best companion to a computer, an iPad or a tablet in a secondary system, or in a portable setup. But for sure, it's also the choice for budget-conscious systems based on high performance integrated amps like NAD, Rotel and the likes, and precise, revealing monitors. Take a laptop, a Mac mini, or a small Linux computer, add the hiFace DAC and you'll have a low-cost, high-performance music file source.
The hiFace DAC doesn't do anything: it has no digital output nor dedicated headphones driver. But our aim was to design a unit capable to do only one thing, and to do it very well. The hiFace DAC has one line level stereo output to drive the input of an amplifier. Actually, it can drive medium- or high-impedance headphones, too, but this is not its main task.
Of course, I'm not the right person to espress an evaluation of a product I designed and sell, but I'm feeling so enthusiast about it that I needed yo share my felling with you, dear readers!

Sono tempi duri: ora più che mai, gli amanti dell'alta fedeltà devono gestire attentamente i loro budget e pare che non sia più il tempo per spendere soldi per altro che la pura qualità sonora. Grazie al Cielo, la tecnologia ci viene in aiuto, e ciò che una volta era ottenbile solo grazie a circuiti e componenti costosi è ora a portata di mano ad un costo molto più accessibile.
Il nuovo hiFace DAC è un DAC USB asincrono high-end compatibile con la USB 2.0 Audio Class e capace di gestire fino a 384/32. Chiedete il prezzo al pubblico al vostro distributore locale: rimarrete sorpresi, perché le prestazioni che offre erano finora legate a prodotti di costo dieci volte superiore.
Personalmente, quando progetto un prodotto insieme al mio team, ho in mente le prestazioni che voglio ottenere, ma devo ammettere che questa volta i risultati ottenuti sono di gran lunga superiori a quanto ci aspettavamo. Nel nostro impianto di riferimento, basato su elettroniche Jeff Rowland e diffusori Audio Manufacture, il suono è impressionante, e compete per soundstage generale, dinamica e regolarità della risposta in frequenza con quello dello Young.
Anche nel mio impianto personale, vintage con un tocco di modernità, non riuscivo a credere alle mie orecchie. Ovviamente, il suono dell'hiFace DAC ha dei limiti, ma non quelli che ci si aspetterebbe da un oggetto così piccolo e a buon prezzo.
L'hiFace DAC è il compagno ideale per un computer, un iPad o un tablet in un impianto secondario o un setup portatile, ma è anche sicuramente la scelta per un impianto budget insieme ad un amplificatore integrato ad elevate prestazione (come un NAD, un Rotel o simili) e a diffusori monitor precisi e rivelatori. Prendete un laptop, un Mac mini o un piccolo computer con Linux, aggiungete l'hiFace DAC e avrete una sorgente per musica liquida ad elevate prestazioni e di prezzo ridotto.
L'hiFace DAC non fa tutto: il nostro obiettivo era progettare un apparecchio che facess una sola cosa e che la facesse veramente bene. L'hiFace DAC ha una uscita analogica stereo a lviello linea, adatta a pilotare l'ingresso di un amplificatore. In realtà, è in grado di pilotare anche cuffie a media e alta impedenza, ma non è questo il suo compito proncipale.
Certamente non sono la persona giusta per esprimere una valutazione di un prodotto che ho progettato e che vendo, ma sento un tale entusiasmo per esso che sentivo il bisogno di condividere con voi, cari lettori, questo sentimento!
Ah, dimenticavo: l'hiFace DAC sarà disponibile a partire dall'inizio di Aprile: rimanete in ascolto!
